Fast and Furious Pleasanton - A bold original initiative

The Safeway Fast & Furious Pleasanton is an all day wellness and lifestyle event that will bring the world of cycling and running together in one place while at the same time highlighting the “downtown experience” of Pleasanton California.

The inaugural Fast & Furious will take place on August 7, 2011. Downtown Pleasanton offers competitors and spectators a wide variety of shopping and dining experiences before, during and after the event. The quaint downtown allure is the perfect destination for those coming from out of town or from around the bay area.

The Fast and Furious features a full day of running and cycling that will appeal to serious athletes, weekend warriors and families. The day will begin with a 5k run/walk that will be tailored to those looking for a flat, fast 5k PR course but will also appeal to the casual runner/walker or family looking for a great way to spend a summer morning in Downtown Pleasanton. The 5k will be followed by a Fast & Furious kids race for the younger ones. Each child will receive a finisher’s medal.

Following the kids’ race comes the much-anticipated “Mile of Truth” – a fast, all-out, one-mile dash for cash with the overall male and female (open, masters and juniors) winners taking home cash and prizes. Immediately after the Mile of Truth spectators will be treated to a full afternoon/evening of criterium style bike racing. Racing will continue in to the evening where spectators and competitors can enjoy the cycling action while at the same time enjoying the dinning and shopping opportunities in Downtown Pleasanton. The evening will conclude with an all-out, under the lights, high-octane professional race with the winner taking home the inaugural Fast and Furious championship title.

Throughout the day, spectators, competitors, their families and friends will be able to enjoy the wellness and lifestyle expo, which will feature local and regional health care vendors, lifestyle companies and specialty product manufacturers. Most important, local restaurants, shops, bars and merchants will have the opportunity to showcase downtown Pleasanton as a dining and shopping destination.
