Leanda Cave – 2010 mid season update
Victories at Escape from Alcatraz and Florida 70.3 highlight impressive first half
July 30, 2010 – At this time of the year, most professional triathletes are turning their focus to preparing for the Ironman World Championship in Kona on October 9th. Leanda Cave is among them and is currently at her Australian training camp in Cairns. The first half of the season has come and gone but not without Leanda continuing to dominate at every race regardless of distance.

Ironman Coeur d'Alene: 3rd Place - What a DAY!
Whew; what a journey it has been. I am still in beautiful Coeur d'Alene, at the coffee shop that Derick and I have eaten lunch at now I believe approximately four times. We head back to Austin tomorrow, and the past week here has been incredible. I am not really sure I have fully 'digested' that my first Ironman has come and gone, but I will try to put the thoughts out on paper as best as I can only two days post.

June 7, 2010 - San Francisco, CA – (photo Nils Nilsen - n2fotoservices.com ) Kelly Williamson has quietly amassed an impressive array of podium and top five finishes dating back to early 2009. This past weekend was no exception as Williamson finished 2nd to current world champion Mirinda Carfrae at the Rev3 Quassy Half located in Midlebury, CT. Williamson posted an impressive overall time of 4:29:09 on what many consider one of the toughest courses on the race circuit.
In her own words:

May 17, 2010 – Just two weeks after winning Escape from Alcatraz for the third time in 4 years, Leanda Cave showed she is a force to be reckoned with at any distance by winning again at Florida 70.3 yesterday. Cave made up for a sluggish swim by posting the fastest bike and run of the day to win in an overall time of 4:14:22. Cave’s time was a new course record, which broke her own course record from last year by over 60 seconds.

Lonestar 70.3: Waves, Wind & Podium
When you live in Texas, any race within driving distance (especially a 70.3 event) is a must-do, seeing it takes a minimum of 3 hours to get out of the state itself (8 if you are going west). Lonestar 70.3 in Galveston happened to be the Professional National Championships this year, so I figured despite it being a pancake flat course, it would be a good challenge and of course it had the the added bonus that Derick (my husband) and I can pack up the car, drive 4 hours south and be back home the evening of the race.

How Triathlon started for me: I did my first triathlon the summer after finishing swimming in college (I swam at U of Illinois). I always loved running, and about 2 weeks after my last Big Ten meet, I was pretty antsy and ready for the ?next thing?. I do not sit still too well. I ran a bunch and of course injured my IT band, so I started spinning to rest it. That led to me thinking it?d be cool to be moving forward on the bike, rather than going nowhere, so I got my first bike, a size 56 road bike which was much too big but I rode for about 2 years.

There is much to be thankful for this week as I celebrate my second place finish at Ironman Arizona over the past weekend. Along with second place I set a new personal-best for the Ironman distance and I set a new run course record.
